Women’s rugby returns to Macerata: «Born from the idea of ​​a mother, Karma Girls already has 16 women»

From a mother’s idea, a women’s Touch Rugby team is reborn in Macerata. After two years of absence, women’s rugby returns to Macerata. A lot has passed since the now former Banca Macerata Rugby players joined the regional franchise Spartan Queens Montegranaro of the women’s Serie A.
The yellow and black club, after years of female experience, definitely felt the lack of an important pink quota and unexpectedly, on the initiative of some minirugby mothers, the opportunity arose to form the Karma Girls, an amateur Touch Rugby team, a less athletically demanding and more inclusive form of non-contact rugby.

Yesterday morning, received by the mayor Sandro Parcaroli, the councilor for sport Riccardo Sacchi and the councilor for safety Paolo Renna, a representative of the team made their official presentations to the leaders of the city whose colors they will wear.
In addition to the Banca Macerata Rugby sports director and girls coach Emanuele Panunti, the players Sonia Sabbatini, Perla Mazzieri and Alessia Bitri were present.
«We started almost for fun – says Panunti – a mother of two children from the mini and manager of the company asked if she and other mothers could try touch rugby. It only took a few seconds to transform a brilliant idea into a beautiful project. So last December 8 very courageous mothers immediately got involved, creating a great driving group which today, after only 4 months, already has 16 members of all ages. In fact, not only mothers but also university girls, former players or simply curious people who wanted to try this exclusively female experience. Because it’s about women and this will be the distinctive trait of this team in the years to come.”
On Saturday 11 May at 3.30 pm at the Elia Longarini Rugby Field in Villa Potenza, on the occasion of Mc 5’s Touch – Italian touch rugby trophy 11 and 12 May, they will make their debut in the Fir Marche Open Group and will meet the Blue teams for the first time Crabs Falconara and Ura Ancona.

At the end of the pleasant chat with the mayor and the councillors, everyone agreed that this will be a wonderful new reality for Macerata Rugby and for the City of Macerata, especially in view of the new sports facility being rapidly built in Villa Potenza for which the Municipality and the company of president Rolando Mozzoni have done a lot in recent years. A perfect setting for Marche and national rugby which from today is enriched with a pink diamond called Karma Girls.
