It is right that Lautaro Martinez asks for 10 million net per season because it is a salary in line with other attackers of his level, and it is right that Inter satisfy the request. Lautaro, in addition to being the team’s top scorer and technical reference, has become a symbol of Interism. He recognizes himself in the club and the fans recognize themselves in him. It’s true, ten million net per season is an old-fashioned figure that Inter has had to cancel from its payroll in the last fifteen years, but now it can afford it.

Marotta, Ausilio & Co. in recent years have accomplished a financial and sporting work of art, sacrificing players and ideas: it’s time they gave themselves a gift. And let them do it to the Inter fans, remembering that the renewal of a player like Lautaro at Inter is worth much more than a new purchase. It is said that then, by renewing Lautaro at ten million, a chain reaction would be triggered with a continuous request for increases from the others. It is not true. Inter has built a healthy group that recognizes Lautaro’s role as leader, therefore also that his salary is the highest. And then, in this case, the management has never been so solid, cohesive and competent: it would be perfectly capable of managing the situation. Let’s be clear, Lautaro’s contract must not be renewed at any price, but at that request yes. Without a doubt.

How strong is Lautaro Martinez! Or, perhaps, we should write it like this: how strong is Lautaro Martinez? The question hides a little torment, because the negotiations for the renewal have been going on for months.

But a negotiation is made up of proposals and requests, especially if you think about the amount at stake: ten (and perhaps more) million euros. So let’s go back to the starting point, this time with clearer ideas regarding the punctuation mark to use: how strong is Lautaro? Is he so capable of demanding such a high salary? And, again: would the club do well to lose money in an attempt to please him, among other things by disintegrating the salary cap it has imposed on itself? In principle the answer should be “no”, certain wages are no longer in line with our football and Lautaro, however strong, is not the exception to the rule. Secondly, the “Toro”, who certainly represents the cornerstone of the Nerazzurri attack, has not yet reached the status that allows him to ask for such a salary without granting a right to negotiation.

It’s true, colleagues like Osimhen and Vlahovic have already arrived, but certainly neither the Nigerian nor the Serbian resemble examples to follow. Then, of course, the center forward is a rare commodity and replacing him would not be easy at all. Furthermore, Inter’s sporting results are the basis of business continuity, but 10 million are not, they surpass any logical reasoning.
