Fiorentina in the Conference League final! 1-1 at Brugge, Viola chasing the trophy for the second time

Fiorentina flies to the Conference League final, the third most important European competition. The purples have drew against Brugge 1-1 in the semi-final second leg staged in Belgium and they managed to qualify for the final round thanks to the 3-2 victory in the first leg match played last week at the Franchi.

Coach Vincenzo Italiano’s boys will thus have the opportunity to play the match that will put the trophy up for grabs, after the defeat suffered last year against English West Ham. For the third consecutive season an Italian will try to party (in 2022 Roma won the cup). If they manage to prevail, they will automatically qualify for the next edition of the Europa League, moving up a step in the hierarchy of continental tournaments.

Fiorentina will have to wait until tomorrow evening to find out the identity of their opponent. It will be there winner of the match between Olympiakos and Aston Villa: the Greeks won 4-2 in the first leg and will try to close the score in front of their fans. The final is scheduled for Wednesday 29 May (9.00 pm) in Athenstherefore Fiorentina could play away if Olympiakos were to pass the round.

Brugge took the lead in the 21st minute with De Cuyper, who did well to escape the mark and header Vanaken’s cross from the left. Fiorentina pushes and in the 35th minute Kouamé hits the crossbar with a powerful shot off Belotti. The Viola were very unlucky in the middle of the second half: in the 74th minute Biraghi hit the crossbar from a free kick, a minute later Kouamé hit the post again after a nice twist of the head.

Italiano’s boys didn’t give up and in the 83rd minute the opportunity materialised: Mechele hits Nzola in the area, penalty kick and Beltran is surgical on the gap. Seven minutes of injury time, right at the end Terraciano invents a miracle and the Tuscan team flies to the final.
