Marche tennis player Camila Giorgi has retired

Marche tennis player Camila Giorgi, who was in 116th position in the women’s world ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the association that brings together professional tennis players from all over the world, has withdrawn. Giorgi, 32, has not officially announced his retirement, nor has he made any comments on the matter: initially the news had circulated on the basis of the fact that since 7 May he was among the withdrawn players on the International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia) website, the organization that deals with the protection of professional tennis players worldwide. She was later confirmed by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation with a post on X (Twitter).

As the site notes OAsport, the Itia list indicates the athletes who are no longer available to take anti-doping tests, as per the procedures carried out when communicating their withdrawal. It is likely that Giorgi’s name will be removed from the WTA ranking with the update on May 20th, at the conclusion of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, scheduled for Wednesday 8th May.

After an eighteen-year career and four titles won, Giorgi’s last match would therefore be last March at the Miami Open, lost against the Polish Iga Swiatek, the number one in the world ranking. Her career best ranking was 26th.
