The Tour of Hungary started today with the 170 km Karcag-Hajdúszoboszló. At the end of a compact sprint, the Australian Sam Welsford, of Bora Hansgrohe, prevailed, beating the young under 23 Samuel Quaranta (MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB) and Jakub Mareczko of Corratec Vini Fantini.
The stage was based on the escape of the Czech Martin Voltr (Pierre Baguette Cycling), who was caught by the group just under twenty kilometers from the finish. Heart-pounding finale with a bad fall at 250 meters involving six-seven runners. Peter Sagan was unlucky on his road debut, suffering a puncture 3500 meters from the end. Victory therefore for Welsford with Quaranta who courageously threw himself into the fray and achieved a very high level podium. Mareczko also did well, finishing in the winner’s wake.
