But which was the hardest and which was most memorable for you? “The two finals with Roma were the most difficult to reach. Perhaps the Europa League with Manchester United was also very difficult. Because they were two teams that when I arrived were in a very difficult situation. Some coaches are perhaps smarter and more intelligent, they choose the right job and the right assignment, with the ideal conditions to achieve success, protecting themselves. I need to always work, feel that I am doing something and helping. The others who have won in recent years have done so with the best players and a lot of money. I like challenges, even if sometimes they are unfair because you can’t expect me to win trophies when my team is not the strongest.”
You’ve won many titles but you don’t have the world championship yet. If you could try, which country would you like to try? “It’s normal that I would do it with Portugal. I had the chance to go there twice, but they didn’t come at the right time for me. I think I was emotional when I didn’t accept the last one, because I decided to stay at Roma and I think I having made a mistake. Because now Portugal has a fantastic team, one of the best, in the top five, but I felt a great connection with Roma, with the fans, so I didn’t want to make that decision. Portugal came twice, but I believe a third will come and I will take it, hoping that the generation I will have will be as strong as this one.”
