Tickets for football matches at San Siro and for the Monza Grand Prix, supplies of water in tetrapacks with personalized branding and assignments of jobs to family businesses, free or discounted stays in hotels, holiday vouchers, padel courts and proposals for corporate shareholdings. These are some of the bargaining chips that the investigating judge Mario De Bellis reported in the order for the application of precautionary measures requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the suspects in the La Spezia branch of the investigation that shook the province on charges of corruption crimes , forgery and abuse of office. These include the former mayor of Porto Venere Matteo Cozzani and a large group of entrepreneurs, such as his brother Filippo, Mirko and Raffale Paletti, Giovanni Olcese, Ivan Pitto, Alessandro Campagna and Saverio Cecchi and the managers of public entities Massimo Gianello and Francesco Fiorino .
According to the investigators, in particular, the former mayor, as well as head of cabinet of the President of the Region Giovanni Toti, investigated in the Genoese side of the investigations, would have used his dual position to guarantee, among other things, increased funding from the Region at the Palio del Golfo and the Genoa Boat Show in exchange, respectively, for work in the field of road signs and a supply of water in bricks, both in favor of the companies registered in his brother’s name.
As mayor, however, Cozzani himself would have favored the economic activities of the Paletti brothers in the territory by obtaining the purchase of water in tetrapacks, stays and dinners in the hotels managed by them, tickets for sporting events, a payment of 15 thousand euros per favor of the party of which he was a member and entry into a company for the management of padel courts and the Da Iseo restaurant on the island of Palmaria.
