Pineto’s son is back: Mattia Catone, blue and white director

ABBA Pineto has its new director: Mattia Catone, born in 2001 and raised in blue and white, will be the setter of the team at the start of the next Serie A2 Credem Banca. A happy return for a talent who grew up in the shadow of Torre di Cerrano and to whom DS Massimo Forese and the club intended to entrust the keys to the game in the 2024/25 season.

Born in Atri, Mattia Catone followed the entire youth sector process in Pineto, before arriving as a senior in Serie B between 2016 and 2021. The following year he landed in Serie A3 again with the ABBA shirt, left only in the summer of two years ago for two experiences outside the region: first in Serie A2 with Agnelli Tipiesse Bergamo and then, last season, in A3 with Senini Motta di Livenza. With the Trevisos Catone collected 49 points (18 aces and 33 in attack) but above all he knew how to illuminate and direct the game, a priority aspect to be proposed again in his Pineto.

The words of Matthias Cato: “I am very happy and excited to return to play for my country, first of all because, after two years out, I was given the confidence to lead a highly respectable team. And then because I believe that the A2 is now increasingly becoming a very stimulating championship in which to participate. Personally I would like to bring joy, lots of fun and quality of play, all accompanied by a great desire to grow and demonstrate. At group level I never like to set goals too much, but in my opinion it is always right to take one step at a time and, if the right alchemy is created between all the members of the collective, I am convinced that we could gain a lot of satisfaction.”

The blue-and-white public will be able to support one of the sons of their land: “In a context like Pineto, cheering truly represents the seventh man, who will be able to stimulate us and give us further desire to do well throughout the entire season”.
