Asia D’Amato suffered a cruciate ligament injury in her left knee. This is theextent of the injury occurred to the Genoese during the qualifications for the 2024 European artistic gymnastics championships. The 21-year-old had touched her joint after performing an acrobatic element on the floor and ended her exercise early for the preliminary round played on Thursday 2 May in Rimini, and was then taken to hospital for an MRI.
Having returned to Brescia, the Italian was visited by Dr. Guido Zattoni at the Poliambulance Foundation hospital and unfortunately the need for a new surgery. The athlete had already undergone an operation on the cruciate and meniscus of that knee after breaking them during the vault final of the World Cup stage held in Cairo in 2023.
It’s about the third serious injury in two years for Asia D’Amato, who in 2022 hurt himself in the final act of the European Championships vault, after winning the gold medal in the individual general competition. If on the two previous occasions her physical problem had cost her participation in the autumn World Championships, this time the Genoese will not be able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics and sees the possibility of taking part in the Games disappearing after the debut in Tokyo 2020.

Asia D’Amato will undergo a new diagnostic test on May 13th and then it will be probably operated in Linz (Austria) by Dr. Jurgen Barthofer’s team, a specialist who had already followed the operation that the Italian underwent in May 2023 and who had reconstructed her twin Alice’s cruciate in 2015. The policewoman would have been a very important player for Italy at the Olympics and naturally his absence will be felt within the team which, after having conquered the continental scepter, hopes to be able to have its say in terms of medals in the French capital.
Asia D’Amato will thus be called upon to make the third great comeback of her career.
