The news had been circulating for a few weeks but no one wanted to confirm it. Then yesterday between the first and second half of Petrarca – Mogliano, the cameras focused on president Marzio Innocenti while he was chatting with Petrarca’s number one Banzato and the doubts were dispelled. So: the discussion has been going on for a few weeks and yesterday Marzio Innocenti returned to office, offering the URC license to the Padua club.
On the scales the federal president has put the ‘bloodbath’ that the Zebre will undergo at the end of this season. Obviously Innocenti did not say that the financial “hole” is attributable only to him and the governance he wanted 11 months ago. Nor that the difficulties cannot be foreign to him considering that Fir is the sole owner of Zebre and that he, as president, had full powers delegated to him by the majority of the council last June. We have confirmation that Innocenti did not even focus on one aspect: last year the budget was closed with a substantial break-even. For this reason, on the eve of the elections (we don’t know after), he seems to have decided that it’s time to say enough, the Zebre are at the end of the line (in Parma).
Obviously in May we cannot think of transferring the license elsewhere. Too late with the new season starting in less than 60 days. The intention is to do one more year and move on to the 2025/2026 championship, therefore after its possible confirmation. And it already makes us laugh. In short: Innocenti tries again. He tries again to promise heaven and earth around Italy with the hope of convincing some more clubs to vote him as Fir’s no.1.
And he is also doing the same with Petrarca. With the difference that Banzato is not the president of Roccacannuccia but a capable and experienced entrepreneur. According to what Pianetarugby.it has been able to verify, Banzato seems to be making the best of a bad situation. Petrarca is interested in the License and only in that, certainly not in taking over the Zebre: his number one has also made it clear that political decisions travel on different tracks and that the first theme is unrelated to electoral commitments.
Petrarca yesterday welcomed Marzio Innocenti with full honours, especially because the request to be welcomed came from the federal offices, perhaps to avoid the situation created last December when the number 1 of the Fir attended the match as an unwelcome guest, or in Viadana last Saturday snubbed by Arletti. Innocenti even published a photo on Facebook between Banzato and Brunetta, almost as if he wanted to ‘communicate’ a newfound understanding. Here: in our opinion it would be wise not to create illusions.
What is perplexing is the ease with which Marzio Innocenti returns to promise again what he has not kept in these three and a half years. It seems surreal what is happening. Now we await the announcement of the 8-team championship, major plans for Seven and the Committees at the center of the project.
This way of campaigning seems like that of ‘O Comandante’, i.e. Achille Lauro, who became mayor of Naples. It is said that Lauro campaigned by distributing packets of pasta, giving out banknotes cut in half and giving out mismatched shoes. One before the vote, the second after the election.
