Jannik Sinner will not play the Masters 1000 in Rome. The Italian tennis player reported on his social profiles that will have to miss the Italian Internationals, scheduled from 8 to 19 May. The South Tyrolean champion found himself forced to give up the tournament which will be staged on the red clay of the Foro Italico due to hip problems which had also forced him to withdraw from the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid three days ago.
Jannik Sinner announced the news this way: “It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome“. Italian enthusiasts will therefore not be able to admire the exploits of number 2 in the worldwho in the first part of the season won the Australian Open, the Masters 1000 in Miami, the ATP 500 in Rotterdam and reached the semi-finals at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Monte Carlo.
The 22-year-old then continued: “Obviously I’m very sad that I didn’t recover, it being one of my favorite tournaments ever. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd. I will still come to Rome for a few days and stop by the Foro Italico“. We are already trying to look to the future: “Now I will work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros“. All attention is on the second Slam of the season, which will be played on the red clay of Paris from May 26th.
Jannik Sinner had decided to play in Madrid after suffering a hip problem in Monte Carlo, which then also emerged in the Spanish capital in the match against Kotov. Subsequently he also faced Khachanov, winning and then deciding to stop the day before the challenge to the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
