The worst way to start Miami Grand Prix. Unfortunately it happened to Charles Leclerc. Moreover, it was the worst weekend, that of the Sprint Race with only one free practice session. The one in which the Ferrari driver spun around and was forced to turn off the engine of his SF-24. From there the red flag, free practices over and weekends decidedly uphill.
F1 Miami, Leclerc cancels: he runs in free practice, turns off the engine, practice is over
It all happened in an instant. A few minutes have passed since the start of free practice, the first and only of the Miami Grand Prix which will already have qualifying for tomorrow’s Sprint late in the evening. Charles Leclerc turns at the exit of turn 16. The Monegasque is asked to turn off the car which had heated up a little too much so as not to cause problems for the power unit.
The race direction displays the red flag, stopping free practice while everyone parades Leclerc stopped in the middle of the track, including Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, Charles gets out of his Ferrari and abandons the car before it can be safely removed from the circuit. Only then was the pit lane reopened.
