And among the men to record also the placings among the “top 8” of Filippo Macchi and Davide Filippi, who finished in fifth and sixth place respectively.
Great Italy also among women: second silver season in the Cup for Elena Tangherlini, from the Marche Army, who comes close to achieving another feat just like last January in Paris after a great performance, and Arianna Errigo is always amazing, the Carabinieri from Lombardy who with the bronze in Hong Kong he reaches 58 medals in the world circuit, mind-boggling numbers. And in the following round, the Italian derby for both medalists who train in Frascati: Elena Tangherlini overcame the number 1 on the scoreboard Martina Favaretto with the last thrust, 15-14, while Arianna Errigo defeated 15-8 Anna Cristino, who was fresh from his first podium in Tbilisi. In the round of 16, the Army team from the Marche won a 15-13 victory over the American Rhodes, while the Carabinieri champion from Brianza beat the Polish Walczyk-Klimaszyk 15-5. In the assaults that were worth the podium Elena beat the American Devore 15-11, while Ary won 15-8 over the Japanese Kikuchi. In the semi-final Tangherlini continued her exciting journey against the USA by beating Dubrovich 15-7 and gaining the pass to the final, which Errigo instead missed, stopped at 15-13 by the other American Weintraub who managed to come back in the final stages of the match . For Arianna Errigo, however, a bronze that glitters, just as the silver of Elena Tangherlini shines, who only in the final, again against the American Weintraub, was overcome 15-11, thus climbing onto the second step of the podium. At the foot of the podium was Francesca Palumbo (6th), who had won the Italian derby in the round of 16 with world champion Alice Volpi (10th). Following, 17th Martina Favaretto, 18th Martina Batini, 22nd Erica Cipressa, 24th Anna Cristino, 25th Martina Sinigalia and 36th Camilla Mancini.
After today’s splendid day, tomorrow Italy will return to the stage in the two team events that will conclude the foil World Cup stage in Hong Kong. In the women’s race, coach Stefano Cerioni will field Arianna Errigo, Martina Batini, Martina Favaretto and Alice Volpi. In the men’s competition the blue quartet will be made up of Guillaume Bianchi, Alessio Foconi, Filippo Macchi and Tommaso Marini.
