At that moment the Sienese will try to turn the situation around after having lost the first leg match in a tiebreak yesterday afternoon in Lombardy.

The ride of coach Gianluca Graziosi’s team in the championship was exciting, with third place in the regular season and with some wonderful playoffs in which the Sienese prevailed first against Brescia in the quarter-finals and then against Porto Viro in the semi-finals until play the two final matches against Grottazzolina.

Now Siena is looking for the pass to reach the Italian Cup finals, another important objective of the season. The Final Four of the event will be held in Cuneo on 11 and 12 May. Facing the Tuscans today, for the return match of the quarter-finals of the competition, there is a tough, tough and quality team like Brescia. Consoli Sferc is certainly a tough opponent, and the four direct clashes experienced in the championship, between the regular season first and then the playoffs, testify to this. On three of those occasions Emma Villas had the upper hand, but every match was fought and tight.

Yesterday afternoon in the first leg match of the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup, Consoli Sferc won the match on tiebreak. In yet another match that lasted over two hours (two hours and 7 minutes to be exact) the Lombards led by winning the first and third sets, but still finding the answers from the Sienese who were led by Matheus Krauchuk (27 points) and by Marco Pierotti (16 points) and who won the second and fourth sets. The Brazilian opposite was also important in serving, scoring an impressive four service winners: a series of serves in the fourth set allowed Siena to gain an advantage in the set and then reach the tiebreak.

In the return match Brescia therefore starts with an advantage in their favour. Siena will try to turn the situation around to go to the finals in Cuneo. To qualify, Emma Villas will have to win at PalaEstra 3-0 or 3-1; in the event of a 3-2 victory for the Tuscans, they will go to the golden set (which is played to 15 points) which will decide which team will qualify. If the return match is also won by Consoli Sferc then the Brescians will go to the Final Four of the Italian Cup.

“It was a high-level match – commented Emma Villas Siena’s opposite, Matheus Krauchuk, at the end of the match played at the San Filippo sports centre. – The challenge was decided on the details but on the other hand we faced a very strong team like Brescia. These are important and delicate matches, the return match will be too. My aces? I’m happy to have contributed to the team. On Sunday we will also have to take advantage of the home factor, we will be at PalaEstra and we will have to play all our cards to get to the Final Four of the Italian Cup. We care a lot, we want to get to the matches that will be played in Cuneo.”
