If it is true that the first impression is what counts, Josephine Obossa will not disappoint both personal and team expectations.
Born on May 2, 1999 in Naples, the new Uyba player is about to start her fourth season in the top Italian league. One of the most effective interpreters of the opposite role arrives at coach Caprara’s court.
In her already more than decent career, Josephine proved to be the best scorer in the championship in 2021-2022 with the Talmassons shirt (Serie A2) when she closed the season with 568 points, 38 aces and over 40% of winning attacks.
After her first steps with Concordia Modena and her debut in a senior championship in 2014 with Liu-Jo Modena, Josephine Obossa makes her debut in a national category in 2015, again with Modena but in Serie B2. A year passes and we find her in Sassuolo in Serie B1 where she is one of the main protagonists of the winning ride of the team that obtains promotion to Serie A2. With the Emilian club she won the Serie A2 Italian Cup in 2019, the year in which she moved to Vero Volley Monza, she made her debut in Serie A1 and with the Brianza club she also took the field in the victorious Cev Cup final played in Istanbul with Galatasaray.
The 2021-2022 championship is that of the aforementioned move to Talmassons and a year later, still in Serie A2, he wears the Millennium Brescia shirt.
Last season she returned to the Serie A1 floors wearing the Casalmaggiore shirt with which she played 21 games scoring 57 points with 7 aces and 42.2% of winning attacks
And now she is ready to start her adventure at Uyba: «I’m happy to be a new butterfly. In Busto I meet friends with whom I have already played and other people I already knew. I am happy with the choice made: even when seen from the outside, Uyba gave me the impression of being a well-organised company.”
So you already know some of your new friends?
«In Brescia I was on the team with Jennifer Boldini, who I’m happy to meet again. I repeat: I also know other players who I encountered as an opponent.”
What do you think you can give to the team?
«I will try to give my best, guaranteeing all the commitment I can give. I will also try to confirm myself in attack which is the fundamental I prefer, also thinking about the role of opposite.”
In his volleyball there is no room just for attack…
«I like to attack but, even if it may seem strange given my role, I also really like to defend».
What is your goal for next season?
«I’m in my fourth Serie A1 championship but I often started from the bench. At Uyba I would like to play a season as a protagonist”
Will he certainly find the affection of the fans in Busto? Do you want to tell them something already?
«I can’t wait to get on the pitch and have all their support. Needless to say, I’m waiting for them in large numbers at the Arena.”
