Isola Sacra Volley participated with a formation created this year.

They fought tooth and nail until the end, but not even the last match of the season gave the 3 points to the women’s team.Sacred Island Volley Fiumicino which plays in the third division Opes championship.

The team, led by mister Simone Martorelli, is made up of 15 athletes and has a rather high average age. She has been training twice a week since last autumn, combining preparation between life and work shifts.

In front of them, throughout the season, 6 other teams alternated in 14 days, with many younger athletes and above all with greater experience behind them.

The final result of a championship with these conditions was not obvious but quite predictable. The final haul was small but not too much: only 6 sets were won by the blue and whites throughout the season who still have the fifth best attack in the championship with 723 points scored.

And also last night, the last day, against the SG Pro GO by Monteverde, the Isola Sacra team played as if they had to defend their lead in the standings. Long bench, no starters, everyone entered the field and contributed. 24-26 the result of the first set which for a moment seemed like it could even be won. Then, after a collapse in the second, the third set offered other beautiful emotionswith a beautiful final comeback which however did not prevent the guests from taking home the 3 points, setting the final result at 25-21.

The wooden spoon is rugby’s symbolic award for the team that has never won a match in the tournament, demonstrating the sport’s respect for commitment and dedication regardless of the result. If it also existed in volleyball, the prize could be theirs.

So in the end, the well-deserved group photo arrives, to immortalise a season that is if not exactly worth framing, at least worth remembering.
