the patent changes everything, the details

Scooters are always at the center of the motorcycle market, this one in particular is very special indeed.

Scooters are always at the center of the global motorcycle market. Their simplicity, their low market cost and the incredible versatility that has always characterized them They are certainly factors to be considered when purchasing by customers and two-wheel lovers.

Of course, these means also have great limitations. In fact, like other small motorcycles, scooters cannot tackle particularly extreme stretches of road – unlike many cars.

A big problem, especially for those who love all those tortuous and complex routes to manage for any vehicle other than a motocross bike. Sure, maybe from now on something could change enormously. The patent we are about to see is truly incredible, all we have to do is delve deeper into everything.

Scooter, this patent is incredible: all the details

There Zongshena Chinese company producing motorcycles and scooters, has patented a complex and unique rear steering system, with the plan to mount it on a scooter. This patent would transform the vehicle into a true amphibian.

But how is this possible? The project – filed for now as a patent – is based on a change of the vehicle’s steering with this switching to a different operation: the scooter therefore switches from having front to rear steering in no time at all. This solution, at least on paper, would allow the rear suspension assembly and the rear tire to rotate freely for classic asphalt driving, but adding a detail.

A Zongshen scooter: the Chinese company will soon produce an amphibious scooter like this (ChinaMotor Zongshen) – Motomondiale.it

This system would cause the rear wheel to rotate 90° so that it is positioned “across” to the longitudinal axis of the scooter to function like a real propeller. In the beginning, Zongshen created the scooter frame based on a steel structure equipped with four internal floats, all to guarantee the effective use of the ‘transformed’ vehicle. Afterwards, it has made the rear axle mobile to allow movement both by water and by land. As regards driveability in water, the rear wheel simply transforms into the vehicle’s propeller, exactly like the propeller of a motorboat engine, even if this is not possible with every type of vehicle.

It is in fact required a particular suspension specifically designed which not only allows the mobility of the scooter but which at the same time does not compromise the driving dynamics on the road in this way. As for the transmission, in both modes this is managed by an electric motor which is located above the rear suspension. It is difficult to say how much and how such an idea could work in reality, but what is certain is that it is still something very ingenious to keep under observation. In the meantime, here is an image of one of the company’s scooters: can you imagine it with this system mounted on board?
