The Grand Prix Commission met on Friday 26 April to discuss the use of helmets in the pit lane for MotoGP team members.

On Friday 26 April the meeting took place in Jerez Grand Prix Commission. Many topics were discussed, one in particular was the use of helmets by MotoGP team members in the pit lane.

In the meeting held in Jerez, many decisions have been made for all classes of the MotoGP. The motivation for these choices is that of ensure greater respect for the hierarchy of management bodies and redefine the authority and competence of the FIM sports commissioners.

There first decision concerns the two minor classes, Moto2 and Moto3, and the tires that will be used in qualifying. To the four drivers participating in both Q1 and Q2, two extra slick tires will be awarded: one front for Q1 and one rear for Q2 of the specification preferred by the team and the driver. This provided that both qualifying sessions are declared dry.

As for MotoGP, it was decided to maintain the obligation to wear helmets in pit lane in the most intense moments when bike changes may be made. These moments have been defined as Q1, Q2 and bike changes in a flag-to-flag race.

Both proposals were approved unanimously by the Grand Prix Commission composed of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Biense Bierma (MSMA) in the presence of Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Webb (IRTA), Corrado Cecchinelli (MotoGP technical director ), Jorge Viergas (FIM President), Paul King (FIM CCR Director) and Dominique Hebrard (FIM CTI Technical Manager).
