the new electric single-seater makes its debut

Formula E and the FIA have revealed in recent days the new Gen3 Evo single-seater which will debut during the eleventh season of this championship. The presentation took place close to the Monaco E-Prix and during the event the first technical information of the new electric single-seater was also shared which will, at least on paper, significantly improve the performance of the current generation. Furthermore, for this new project, the focus was more on sustainability.

EVEN FASTER

According to what was declared, the new electric single-seater will be capable to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km) in just 1.82 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 1.86 seconds), that is, it will be 30% faster than a Formula 1 and 36% faster than the current Gen3. The maximum speed, however, reaches 200 miles per hour, i.e. just under 322 km/h.

The improvements made to the design of the single-seater, including the refinement of the aerodynamics and the use of new Hankook iON tyres Made with 35% recycled materials which guarantee 5-10% greater adhesion, they have allowed an overall improvement in performance of approximately 2%. It is estimated that on the Monaco circuit there could be a reduction in lap times of approximately 2 seconds.

Then there is another interesting news. During qualifying and Attack Modes the front engine previously used only for regeneration, it can be also used to provide tractionensuring the availability of all-wheel drive and a general improvement in performance.

In developing the single-seater, the technicians did not forget about regenerative braking which has been optimized and can generate up to 600 kW of power. According to what has been said, it is possible to generate almost 50% of the energy necessary for a race, during the race itself. Looking to the future, a new ultrafast charging system is being developed to enable thirty-second high-speed charging at 600 kW to obtain additional energy at half the e-prix.

Formula E is a championship created to emphasize the theme of sustainability. Duque, particular attention was paid to this aspect in the development of the Gen3 Evo. For example, in addition to the new tires with 35% recycled materials, the suppliers of minerals for the battery cells were selected based on specific “ethical and sustainable extraction standards to ensure a positive or neutral impact on people and the planet“.
