MADRID (Spain) – Jannik Sinner is preparing for the 3rd round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid on Monday against the Russian Pavel Kotov. The No. 1 seed beat Lorenzo Sonego debuting in the Iberian tournament, a very different tournament compared to Monte Carlo as Jannik himself declared in the press conference: “The conditions were completely different to what we are used to in training with the roof closed. I know Lorenzo very well, we have a great friendship off the court, we are Davis Cup teammates and we often train together. It was also a different match from a mental point of view. I am very happy with how I handled the situation. He didn’t play his best game, I wish him the best for the rest of the season“.

“We are working hard athletically. The trainer left on Friday: so far we’ve worked a lot in the gym, now I’ll give him a break because then between Rome and Paris it’s all in a row. It’s right that he also has moments of pause, even if he obviously continues to send me things to do. We are preparing not for this tournament but partly for Rome and above all for Roland Garros and Wimbledon, we are trying to put in some fuel for this fairly long part of the season“.
