the regulation that few knew

Animals are increasingly common in Italian families and many wonder if it is possible to take them with them even on motorbike trips.

Until a few years ago there were certainly many people who they decided to have an animal pets, but without a doubt the number has increased over the years. This can be seen from how more and more restaurants and places are accepting dogs, knowing how many people always want to have their four-legged friend with them.

What also changed was the Traffic Laws regarding the issue linked to possible abandonments or investments of animals. In fact, for years we have been accustomed to seeing too many stray dogs and cats around cities, or worse still tied up in motorway lay-bys.

The sanctions for those who commit this truly abominable act – rightly severely sanctioned – are harsher, so much so that it passes from minimum of 1,000 up to a maximum of 10,000 Euros. However, the penalty for those who hit an animal is slightly lower, considering how the causality variable is considered.

In this case, however, a distinction is made between those who accept the consequences and stop, with the fine ranging from a maximum of 78 to a maximum of 311 Euros. For those who go straight on their own path, they go to a minimum of 389 up to a maximum of 1,559 Euros. Motorcycle lovers, however, wonder how to bring their animals with them, if this can be done while respecting the law and there are a series of regulations to follow.

Taking your dog on a motorbike: pay attention to safety

If someone were to be “dog-dependent”, but at the same time he does not conceive a trip without a motorbike, there is nothing to worry about. In fact, the law allows you to drive with your pet next to you, but certain rules must be followed.

First of all, it is right to underline that travel by motorbike is always permitted for healthcare personnel, with them being able to bring with them animals designated for first aid operations: this only if, however, they are always in a position to respect the Traffic Laws. Dogs can be brought along, as long as they are inside special safety containers.

It is not enough just to choose the device with which to protect your pet from possible road-related shocks, but it must also be placed in a point on the motorbike where it does not risk falling on the road. Therefore it will not be possible to position the animal in places where it risks limiting its grip on the handlebars biker nor limit its visibility.

The regulation also imposes an absolute prohibition on increasing the width of the motorbike by more than 50 cm compared to its size. This applies to both animals and objects, with the penalties being the same in both cases. In fact, you will get a fine minimum of 83 up to a maximum of 332 Euros.

Therefore, also in this case, safety reigns supreme, with motorcyclists and animals always having to be protected from possible trouble. The good news, however, is that animals can still move on two wheels, always with the necessary precautions.
