Matteo Boniciollicoach of Givova Scafati who took over from Stefano Sacripanti during the season, was interviewed in detail on the pages of La Repubblica, to talk about an environment that thrives on basketball, where he has seen it all, victories, defeats, the escape of David Logan .
What kind of square is Scafati’s? “Super crowd, very close to the team. The heat was never lacking. But in some matches I would have hoped to see a few more fans.”
How much is this salvation worth? “In the league of large investments, a small southern city that resists and saves itself would be worth a series on Netflix. In A2 there are large squares, between Fortitudo, Trieste, Turin. Scafati will be in his third year in Serie A next year, and this is truly extraordinary.”
What Boniciolli learned from this Scafata experience. “Last summer a couple of clubs replied that they wouldn’t take me because I hadn’t coached in Serie A for four years. They won’t be able to say it anymore.”
Boniciolli also talked about how he “lightens up” off the pitch. “With reading, with good food. In Pompeii, where I live, I have also been to archaeological excavations. I took a long walk in this huge dead city with the aim of downsizing a defeat. When you see such greatness, then you put everything in its place.”
