SPOLETO – Victory in the tiebreak in game 2 of the play-off semi-final was not enough for the girls of the new Monini Spoleto Volleyball team to access the regional final of the Under 16 Championship. The dream of the national finals in Bormio is extinguished, but all we can say about the Spoletine team is Anyway, “well done” for trying until the end.

The PalaRota match was a beautiful match, balanced, hard-fought, full of reversals and twists. In the end, honor goes to Città di Castello who, however, also thanks to the double setter formula, demonstrated that they have something more and deserve the final. After losing game 1 3 to 0 in Castello, it is not easy to have to play with the obligation of having to necessarily win with the same 3 to 0 or at most 3 to 1, the girls coached by Coach Gabriele Gabbinanelli and deputy Damiano Di Titta tried their hardest, but it wasn’t enough.

Coach Gabbianelli deploys Maggiolini and Aliementi on the opposite setter diagonal, Sgrigna and Mariani in the gang, Boldrini and Capotondo in the center, Minni free.

Spoleto starts off very strong, forces the serve and in the first set closes with Sgrigna, granting their opponents just 17 points. Castello resets and the second set is characterized by balance, in the end however the hosts move forward, but at 24-20 the serving error arrives which reopens the set. The supporters, thanks to an excellent service, cancel more than one set ball and equalize the scores, winning 26-24. The third set is a carbon copy of the second, the Spoletos suffer from P2 and this time it is Castello who has more than one set-ball. Capotondo puts in a series of serves and Mariani in place 4 makes the difference, Spoleto recovers and when everything seemed over, he rekindles the final dream by winning the set 27-25. The hosts are also ahead in the fourth set, but this time it is Castello who completes the comeback, leaving the opponents at 22 and making it 2-2 which is worth the tiebreak but above all the final. In the end, NPS had the consolation of winning the match on tiebreak.

It wasn’t a good day at Nuova Pallavolo Monini Spoloeto because the men’s U17 and women’s U13 also farewell in the semi-finals.

“However, we are satisfied with the results, – states the technical director of the NPS Francesco Tardioli – we still reached the semi-finals in three championships. We have clear ideas and are already working for the future. Now to close the youth activity we will play the men’s U19 final against Sita. It will be like David against Goliath, but we can only congratulate the 2005-2006 group in advance.”
