Last year, at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, Matteo Arnaldi achieved a key success against Casper Ruud. Beating the Norwegian – at that time number four in the world – allowed the Sanremo native to take an important step forward from a mental point of view.
It was in that tournament that Arnaldi realized he could have his say on the major circuit and play his cards against the best tennis players on the Tour. A year after that victory, the Italian is ready to make his debut at the Mutua Madrid Open 2024 .

“Madrid was an important tournament, because I got a great victory against Ruud.
But it’s not one of my favorites because of how everything is structured. I’m training and I’m ready. We are at altitude and the ball jumps more, but in the end it is a question of adaptation and now I have much more experience.
Last year I was a new entry, now I feel part of the circuit”, Arnaldi said to Sky Sport. The Italian finally focused on the Olympic dream and on the young compatriots who could soon make the leap to quality.
“It would be incredible to play the Olympics. A tournament we never play, a competition you always watch as a child. You don’t play for points or money, but for Italy. Winning a medal would be something incredible.
I’m a fan of Luca Nardi, I’ve always liked how he plays. He’s the one who can take a big step forward.”
