From cyclocross to road. Thiibau Nys, highly decorated on dirt in the youth categories and a European gold on the U23 road in 2021 in Trento, he takes the second stage, third including the prologue, of the Tour of Romandie. The Belgian from Lidl-Trek beats Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon Ag2R La Difesa) in the sprint on the uphill finish of Salvan/Les Marecottes and will also wear the yellow jersey of the general classification. However, nothing happens between the men in the rankings, who battle a little only in the last 500 meters without creating too much selection.
The day’s attack was successful after about fifteen kilometres. Xandro Meurisse (Alpecin – Deceuninck), Thibau Nys (Lidl – Trek), Roger Adria (BORA – hansgrohe), Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Difesa Team), Sean Flynn (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL), Nikias Arndt (Bahrain – Victorious ) and Zabier Azparren (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) they fly away, touching up to a 5′ margin.
On the climb to Les Mosses, 13.4 kilometers at 4.1%, the EF Education-Easypost takes charge of the chase, taking a couple of minutes off. Meanwhile, Flynn and Arndt lose contact with the other five, who continue their journey arriving at the foot of the last climb with just over two minutes of advantage.
The leading group goes together until 3300 meters from the finish line, when it is Vendrame breaks the deadlock with Nys and Meurisse behind, while behind Simon Yates (JayCo-AlUla) lights the fuse, which leads Luke Plapp and Florian Lipowitz (bora-Hansgrohe) who return to the leading trio one and a half kilometers from the finish line. The blue and Nys remain close behind the Australian, going over the top of the GPM with 500 meters to go. It becomes a tough sprint, with tough slopes: Vendrame launches the sprint 200 meters from the finish line, sprinting at the right time and taking the wide curve to cut off his opponents. Plapp has none, while Nys has a bit more energy, going to overtake him in the last 40 meters.
