Inter-Toro, refereeing team composed only of women: it is the first time in Serie A
Descriptive text here

Here is the premiere that many would not have expected. And instead, finally, on Sunday what seemed unthinkable until recently, will materialize. On the occasion of Inter-Torino, scheduled for Sunday at 12.30 at San Siro, – with the Nerazzurri continuing the celebrations for the conquest of the second star -, the refereeing trio will be all female. The challenge will be directed by Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi, while the two line assistants will be Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti: never before in the top flight have we seen a trio made up entirely of the “fairer sex”. Yes, in the past it had happened that the three descended at the same time

on the green rectangle: but it was B, on 26 December 2002 for a Frosinone-Ternana of the cadet boxing day, and Coppa Italia in January 2023 when they directed Napoli-Cremonese valid for the round of 16. In short, a historic first, a sign of the times that are (positively) changing. Among the three, certainly, the best known is Ferrieri Caputi, born in Livorno in 1990: the 33-year-old was the first woman to whistle an Serie A match. It was 2 October, when Labronica led at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, and also very good, the match between Sassuolo and Salernitana ended 5-0 in favor of the neroverdi. And her virtuous path, made up of 168 matches in total, has continued in the current season, so much so that Caputi has directed on 6 occasions, the last on 14 January (Lazio-Lecce). After three months of absence from the most prestigious fields, and with several direct matches in Serie B (8 seasonal total, the last Sampdoria-Sudtirol on 14 April), she returns to Serie A and does so on a Sunday that will remain forever in the history of Italian football. Less known, however, to the general public, above all for a question of role, Di Monte and Trasciatti, but not for this reason not deserving of special mention.

Di Monte, born in 1993, enrolled in the Chieti section, graduated in Law, made his debut, as an assistant, in Serie C in 2013. His first time in Serie A was on 27 October 2022, for Udinese-Verona, when he supported the race director Marchetti. She has various experiences both nationally, but also European and international (the last of which was recently in Paraguay, at the South American Conmebol Sub17 women’s championship). Di Monte who, despite herself, was also the protagonist of the “misunderstanding” with Juan Luca Sacchi of the Macerata section, who in the “Via del Mare” underpass before Lecce-Sassuolo (it was 7 October 2023) did not shake her hand, heading only towards Gabriel Strefezza and Gian Marco Ferrari, i.e. the captains of the two teams.

And Trasciatti’s career has also been high to date. The assistant born in Foligno, after a long apprenticeship, was promoted to the Can of A and B in 2022, while her debut in A, on the occasion of Fiorentina-Salernitana, dates back to November 2022. For her, not just football male, because over the years it has taken part in women’s Champions League matches, in the 2025 European Championship qualifiers, but also in the “pink” version of the Copa Libertadores in Ecuador.
