Dramatic event in F1, with death threats that shook the entire circus and left a very bitter note.
Motor racing represents a passion spread throughout the world, with fans found in every corner of the Earth. F1 in particular is the most followed competition and is appreciated thanks to a series of exciting races that have written indelible pages in the history of sport.
Nowadays, unfortunately, there is a lack of that top competition which is the hallmark of racing, with Red Bull having a single-seater and driver in its package, in this case Max Verstappen, an almost unbeatable combination. In 2024, it took his car’s brakes failing to prevent the Dutch phenomenon from winning all five races of the year.
Super Max therefore has all it takes to win its fourth world title, with the Chinese GP which showed the whole world a driver of a level clearly superior to the competition. Not even two safety cars were enough, with these bringing the group closer together, to prevent the driver from Red Bull achieved success in the race.
If the fight for first place seems almost a formality, the situation is very different for the various placings. There is certainly no lack of balance and there are several excellent teams, with battles on the track often ending with a series of very close battles. This leads to disputed decisions on the part of the race commissioners, but one must never fall into violence, even if only verbal.
Herbert doesn’t agree: “Alonso fans threatened me with death”
Among the main figures for the management of the race is Michael Schumacher’s historic former teammate, with Johnny Herbert who is one of the drivers who has been able to write some iconic moments in the racing world. A second driver who in 1995 proved decisive in contributing to Benetton’s first, and only, success in the Constructors’ World Championship.
A driver therefore who left an important mark in F1, despite never managing to fight for the top title. Now his role is to be an integral part of the race commission, with his decisions often causing discussion. One of the most difficult decisions to make was the one that took place in Australia, with the Englishman penalizing by 20 seconds Fernando Alonso for having unlawfully obstructed the Mercedes by George Russell.
Many criticized this choice, considering that the action was only defensive, but the British driver from Mercedes ended up stuck in the middle of the track, with the car overturned. Despite this ending, the fans of Alonso they harshly lashed out at each other Johnny Herbertaccused of damaging his idol.
“I received several death threats for two weeks. Most of them were from Spanish fans writing me dagger emoticons saying ‘we’ll come and get you, we know where you live’. I’m sure Alonso would be ashamed if he knew.”. Herbert he thus spoke to the Mirror, with F1 thus having a bad page.
