The under 10 team second at the Rieti tournament
An extremely courageous performance was not enough for Rugby Anzio Club to overcome the league leaders Ss Lazio 1927, who on the Anzio Cologne field maintained their unbeaten record in the promotion round of Serie C by winning 50 to 13. A match resolved in the final, but however played by the hosts openly and without awe.
Despite having some difficulties in touch, but doing well in the mix and in open spaces, Anzio worried the guests considerably, especially in the first half of the game. Down 10 to 0 after a few minutes, Ghellini’s fifteen first shortened the score with Santarcangelo from the pitch to make it 10 to 3, then equalized the score with Stefano Pacchiarotti’s try who completed a good move wide, and also took the lead by 13 at 10 again thanks again to a free kick. Before the break, Lazio were still in the goal, closing the first half with a score of 17 to 13.
The second was also hard-fought, with Anzio unable to capitalize on a couple of opportunities it had to take the lead, then collapsing in the last quarter of an hour of play until the final score was 50-13.
The other results of the day saw the victory of Nuovo Salario over Abruzzo Rugby, and that of Rugby Roma Olympic over Arieti Rieti. SS Lazio 1927 remains at the top of the table at 39, followed by Nuovo Salario at 36, Anzio third at 18, Abruzzo Rugby 16, Arieti Rieti close at 7 and Roma Olympic at 6. At this point there are only two games left to Anzio, on May 5th in Rieti and on the 12th in Rome against Olympic to definitively close the season.
As far as the youth teams are concerned, Anzio participated with the Under 8, 10 and 12 representatives in the Rieti tournament, a feat that was almost achieved for the Under 10 team who narrowly lost the final against Primavera Roma, coming close to an authentic business. But they will be on the field again this Sunday, in Anzio itself, on the occasion of the group match intended for the Under 8 and 10 categories.
