Leclerc, tragicomic radio team in China: so much time wasted, there’s a reason

The flying lap confirms itself as an Achilles’ heel for Ferrari 2024. The two Ferrari drivers waste a lot of time in the first sector of the track, especially Leclerc. The Monegasque finds himself in second place when he finishes his last attempt in Q3, but he won’t hold onto the place for long. In a few seconds the ’97 class found himself displaced from the front row by Alonso, the two McLarens and Perez. The final verdict reads sixth position. A disconsolate one Charles discusses the critical issues of the flying lap with his engineer, identifying some problematic factors.

But positions change rapidly. Xavi Marcos begins the litany: “It’s P3… Well, I correct myself, it’s P4, but Alonso and Perez still have to finish the lap. At the moment we have Verstappen, Norris and Piastri in front.”

After a few moments, Xavi resumes communication with the pilot: “Um, in the end it’s P6”. Monegasque Leclerc is incredulous: “It’s crazy… I don’t know… The wind has changed a little, it seems to me that we have lost a little.”

The conversation turns to the tenths left on the track. Ferrari driver #16 asks: Where did we waste time? Turn 8, right?”

The track engineer replies from the wall: “Mainly we lost in turns one, two and three”he explains, confirming the difficulties in the first sector. “Then we recovered in the second sector.”
