18 consecutive victories, 3 titles and more than 100 positions climbed for entry into the Top 200 which will materialize next week. These are the fantastic numbers of the French Lois Boisson, who by beating Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-1 6-3 reached the semi-finals at the Axion Open in Chiasso. The tennis player born in 2003 is one of the most popular protagonists at the Chiasso Tennis Club, where the 12th edition of the international women’s tournament is being held with $60,000 in prize money. On Saturday 20 April, which will open at 12.00 with the doubles final, there is great anticipation for the semi-final that Boisson will play against the fourth seed Anna Bondar. The Hungarian, former world 50, won the match that opened the Centrale program by 6-4 7-6(5) against Francesca Curmi. Nothing to do however for the Swiss Simona Walter, defeated 6-2 6-4 by the red specialist Julia Riera. The Argentine will face Turkey’s Berfu Cengiz, who eliminated top seed Kayla Day 2-6 6-4 6-3.

Boisson in the Top 200, but it’s just the beginning – Jannik Sinner stopped at 19 consecutive victories. With that in the quarterfinals of the Axion Open Lois Boisson makes 18. This is obviously a forced comparison, but the calmness of the Frenchwoman born in 2003 in some ways could recall that of the Italian champion. Fresh from three consecutive titles, Boisson reached the semifinals in Chiasso by dominating the Spanish Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-1 6-3: “I’m playing very well, I’m still undefeated on clay and I didn’t expect it, but as is normal, sooner or later I will lose.” On Thursday the twenty-year-old coached by Florian Reynet had also defeated the second seeded Darja Semenistaja, who did nothing to counter a tennis characterized by a splendid ability to build exchanges and sink at the most opportune moment. The shot that steals the eye is the backhand backhand, one of the best at women’s level: “On clay I play well: I use the backhand slice very well and I can exploit the kick serve well. In terms of rankings, my goal is to end the year in the top 100, but in the meantime I have guaranteed myself a place in the Roland Garros qualifiers and then if a wild card were to arrive, all the better.”
