Virtus Servigliano in Serie A1: a utopia close to becoming reality thanks to the talented 13-year-old Danilo Faso – Picchio News

Virtus table tennis Servigliano is one step away from the historic promotion to the A1 series. On Saturday 20 April, starting at 3pm, the Giallorossi will host Antoniana Pescara and the calculations are simple to do: a draw will be enough to celebrate the conquest of the top flight. The match will take place in the municipal gym in via Trieste and will be free to enter.

Moment awaited by everyone, Marche hasn’t had a club in A1 for years. After the championships won by the glorious Vita Mirella of Sant’Elpidio a Mare and by Senigallia, table tennis in our region had lost a bit of its luster and now with the rise of Virtus the dream of regaining the top Italian showcase is really close.

They are expected among the public at the Servigliano sports hall Fabio Luna (president of Coni Marche), Marco Berzano (president of Fitet Marche) e Massimo Costantini, the greatest Italian tennis player of all time with 452 appearances for the national team. In the front row, as always, there will be the mayor Marco Rotoni who is a super Virtus fan.

Maximum concentration within the team that is completing a truly important championship against teams that also boast half a century of tradition. As always, Virtus will have as number one on the field the 13 year old Danilo Faso, the best young player of the Italian national team. A year ago the club decidedly focused on promoting Faso and the Italian “street urchin” of French origins stunned everyone by winning repeatedly, even at an international level, with Virtus and with the national team shirt.

Out of 25 championship matches, Danilo Faso has won 23 and is the best player in the category. Faso will have the support of captain Matteo Cerza, Nigerian Orok Etim Effiong, Chinese Li Weimin and Bulgarian Daniel Gaybakyan.

Here are the magnificent five of Virtus (three starters and two reserves). Cerza and Li Weimin are in their fifth year with Virtus, who signed them from Terni when president Fabio Paci’s club was still in Serie B2. A long gallop, therefore, with many mutual satisfactions. Orok, making his debut in the Italian championship, is another pleasant surprise and also put on a show last week in Torre del Greco.

Gaybakyan’s support is also important. Antoniana Pescara must obtain a point to guarantee mathematical permanence in Serie A2 and relies on the now proven trio of Maurizio Massarelli, Roberto Minervini and Mattia Galdieri.

The match is entrusted to the referee Alberto Sabbatini and it promises to be very spectacular, given the characteristics of the tennis players. Virtus Servigliano, founded just 12 years ago, has already won six championships: D2 (in 2014), D1 (2015), C2 (2018) at regional level; C1 (2019), B2 (2020) and B1 (2023) at national level. All promotions won on the field, with sacrifices and pride on the part of a company that has been able to communicate with the territory and carry forward an important project.
