the sumptuous spoils and the advantage over the pursuers

Jannik Sinner finds himself firmly in command of the ATP Race, i.e. the ranking that takes into consideration exclusively the results obtained during the current season. The Italian tennis player stands tall with 4,300 points: 2,000 for the apotheosis at the Australian Open, 1,000 for the seal at the Masters 1000 in Miami, 500 for the affirmation at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, 400 for the semi-final at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells (ko against Carlos Alcaraz), 400 for the semifinal at the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo (defeat against Stefanos Tsitsipas, conditioned by a huge refereeing oversight).

We remember that this ranking determines the eight qualifiers for the ATP Finals, the prestigious tournament at the end of the competitive year which will be staged in November at the PalaAlpitour in Turin, where in the last edition the South Tyrolean champion surrendered in the final act to Novak Djokovic after beating him in the round robin. Our standard bearer is in fact already admitted to that event, given that the winners of the Slams in the season have the right to participate as long as they are in the top-20.

Jannik Sinner has a huge lead over his closest pursuers in the ATP Race. The Russian Daniil Medvedev the German is in fact second at 2,650 Alexander Zverev is third (1,985 points, but could reach 2,185 in case of final victory in Monaco), the Norwegian Casper Ruud he is fourth (1,875, he can go up to 2,275 by triumphing in Barcelona). The Australian is even further behind Alex de Minaur (1,745), Spanish Carlos Alcaraz (1,700) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (1,625, but potential of 2,025 by winning in Barcelona). The Serbian Novak Djokovic is ninth with 1,310 and would currently be out of the Finals.
