The 500 world champion had his say on the emerging talent

April 18, 2024

Kevin Schwantzlike all the strong pilots of this period and the past, was invited to have his say on the Pedro Acosta phenomenon.

His colleague Mela Chercoles from asked him about the value of the class of 2004 AS. Schwantz spoke on the occasion of the GP of the Americas: “Acosta is a great new phenomenon. I mean, I think there’s no doubt that Pedro is a real sensation for the category. He is fast. In terms of personality, I don’t know much about him, but I think his riding skills speak for themselves: he has the pace to be at the front despite him being a rookie. Over time he will discover the racing technique, what you can do with the tires, how far you can push them, and then he will start to discover what can he do in the race to be able to WIN”.

For Schwantz, however, it is better not to make comparisons: “I don’t know if there is anyone I would compare him to. I would certainly like to think that he is, as I said, a breath of fresh air for the class. I think he’s a young guy who’s showing speed right away. And it’s a lot easier to slow someone down to make them a better driver than to try to speed someone up.”
