The natural habitat. Red clay is and will always be the favorite surface of Martina Trevisan and Tuscany wanted to reiterate the concept in first round of the WTA in Rouen. On the red carpet French, indoors, the Italian (n.78 in the ranking) defeated a player with a noble past, who unlike her has never particularly loved the crushed brick.

In the first set the beginning was marked by difficulties in the service of both: our standard bearer took the turn to serve from her opponent in the first game, but suffered an immediate counter-break due to a slow ball speed. Trevisan has to save two more break points in the sixth game and three in the eighth, before finding the right starting point. Taking advantage of some errors by Osaka, the Italian tennis player creates her own chance and makes it happen. In this case the serve doesn’t tremble and the 6-4 rewards it.
In the second set Trevisan plays more fluently and his service turns are decidedly safer. Comforted by the fundamentals, the benefits are also seen in the response and in this way the breaks of the third and seventh games arrive. At the score of 6-2 the Tuscan can shake hands with the Japanese with pride.
Taking a look at statistics, what stands out is the 39% of points won with the second serve by Osaka compared to 48% by the Italian and this figure, in the economy of the match, made a big difference. The Japanese also paid the price for the first serves on the pitch, just 53%, compared to the 67% of the Italian.
