Conflicting opinions among the pilots
Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo finished the Spanish GP in 13th and 15th position behind Joan Mir’s Honda on a track on which in the past the Yamaha she was used to dominating. The gap that separates the M1s from the Ducatis is boundless, but at least as Quartararo said after the renewal, the production pace of the new products in Iwata is fast and in Jerez, for example, a clear Ducati-style fairing arrived, the result of the purchase of Max Bartolini from part of the house of the three tuning forks. This is how the riders commented on the day of testing in Jerez.
“It was certainly a positive test – has explained Alex Rins – we tried some elements, an aerodynamic package, a new chassis and we also worked on the electronics. Fabio and I rode together for a while, to understand the difference. He was riding with the standard aerodynamics and I was riding with the new one, we wanted to see the positive and negative points to gather information. Honestly, I like the new aerodynamics. I’m driving well with this package, but we can’t have it for Le Mans yet because the engineers need more time, but they will work on it. As for the chassis, I didn’t like that part very much, so we need to work on it a little more.”
“We had a lot of things to test and we gathered a lot of information – the words of Fabio Quartararo – we tested a new chassis, new aerodynamics and also the electronics. We have collected a lot of data but, of course, we need more time before reaching a conclusion. We will also have a private test in Mugello to find out more. We have just finished the test here, so we need to analyze all the data before Le Mans. I think there are some positives but, of course, there are also things where we need more time to make it work. But I think that perhaps for Le Mans we can already start introducing some new features. I liked the new chassis and it seems like it’s a more significant step forward than those we’ve made in recent years.”
