There Bologna’s run stops and actually crashes into Monza who plays a very solid match at Dall’Ara. Thiago Motta’s team appeared less brilliant than in other circumstances, there was no shortage of scoring opportunities but the rossoblù were unable to break through the wall erected by Palladino’s team, who played a match of great consistency.

Bologna-Monza, the key to the match

The progress of the match seems to be evident right from the start with Bologna winning the match and Monza attempting a throw-in. The first blast of the match bears the signature of Orsolini who calls for a great response from Di Gregorio from a free kick. Is always Orsolini turning on the light in the Bologna house, his action on the right flank is splendid, he returns to the left foot, shot and turn and a miracle from Di Gregorio. The rossoblù pick up the pace and begin to collect scoring opportunities. In Bologna’s best moment, however, comes the reply from Monza who comes very close to scoring the lead with Djuric who, however, does not find the winning shot. Towards the end of the first half the match got a little nasty with La Penna struggling to keep things calm. It’s always Thiago Motta’s team that plays against Ferguson who tries to turn after a corner kick but his shot ends up wide.

All the emotions of Bologna-Monza

At the beginning of the second half it is Monza who shows up first with Zerbin who puts a wonderful ball for Colpani but he doesn’t find the door two steps away. Bologna’s response is once again entrusted to Ferguson who fails to respond find the opportunity to beat Di Gregorio. The rossoblù continue to push but struggle to break down the wall erected by Bologna. The right opportunity comes in the 76th minute at the feet of Freuler who, however, a few steps from the goal sends the ball to the back. The pressure is constant until the end with Bologna pouring into the opponent’s half of the field but unable to find the winning goal.

Top and Flop of Bologna

  • Ferguson 5.5: some good action on the wing, some interesting insertions but also an error at the end that could have broken the deadlock.
  • Kristiansen 5: fails to provide support to the attackers on the wing, a few too many inaccuracies.
  • Orsolini 7: Bologna’s best actions come from his left foot, even from set pieces. He triggers a battle with Di Gregorio that brings applause.
  • Zirkzee 6.5: the class is always visible but Monza is good at making him play as far away from the goal as possible. A couple of plays are enlightening but not enough.
  • Ndoye 6: enters the field very well in the second half, bringing liveliness to a move that seems to be in a bit of difficulty.

Top and Flop of Monza

  • By Gregorio 6.5: it’s no secret that the Monza goalkeeper is one of the most talked about fullbacks ahead of the next transfer window and the performance against Bologna demonstrates why. Once again he proved to be applause with a save on Orsolini in the first half.
  • Pablo Marì 6.5: It’s not an easy task to keep Zirkzee under control, he suffers but still manages to keep up.
  • Zerbin 6.5: the former Napoli player has found continuity and is showing off his quality. Some of Monza’s best actions come from his feet.
  • Colpani 5.5: subpar performance for the talent of Monza, you can see little in the first half and in the second half they waste an important opportunity by trying too hard for special effects.
  • Akpa Akpro 6: Palladino chooses him to give physicality to the Brianza midfield, he is good at adding quality too.
  • Djuric 5: he is not served well by his teammates and ends up playing a game as a non-paying spectator

Referee La Penna’s report card

Federico La Penna: He has no hesitation in issuing a yellow card against Ferguson for a potentially dangerous intervention against Pablo Marì. He tries to whistle as little as possible but in the final minutes of the first half (after a red card to Luca Befani on the Bologna bench) the yellows begin to pour in. In the second half the match becomes a little simpler but tends to bring out the yellow too easily. Rating 5.5
