Two-way challenge in the eighth City of Pontedera Grand Prix, national competition for elites and under 23s organized by US Juventus Lari.

The protagonists are Francesco Galimberti from Giussano, 23 years old, from Biesse Carrera and the Piedmontese (same age) Pietro Aimonetto from Ciclistica Rostese. In fact, the two were the protagonists in the last 15 km of the contest after a sextet had taken off and including, in addition to them, Zurlo, the Polish Szymacha, Bauce and Niccoli. The latter was the first to give up, while Aimonetto was ahead of his time and before reaching the Montacchita mountain grand prix, he reached the Piedmontese and jumped him, winning the mountain grand prix on the fifth and final pass 12 km from the finish line. Along the descent, technical and insidious, between the two, a few tens of metres, with Aimonetto managing to get back under Galimberti. The entire group regrouped behind them but the delay was more than half a minute and there was no longer any possibility of returning. The two traveled together until 1,300 meters from the finish line when Galimberti extended and gained about fifty meters which he maintained until the finish line. The winner’s action was confirmation of the excellent athletic condition of the Biesse Carrera rider from Lombardy, who emerged from the Giro d’Abruzzo in stages.

An excellent performance for his first victory of the season and fully deserved also for his certainly intelligent tactical conduct. Aimonetto also did well, while the group of first pursuers was regulated for third place by Buda who was disappointed by the fact that there was no agreement behind to cancel the escape of the two protagonists of the race.

At the Gp Città di Pontedera 179 the starters of 32 teams and the race was animated by a couple of attempts in the first 40 km which were immediately cancelled, and by a more substantial breakaway of 20 riders from which the six who gave rise to the decisive episode then emerged with Aimonetto and Galimberti proving to be the strongest on the occasion and putting up a great challenge in the last 15 km of the race.

The start was given by the mayor of Pontedera Matteo Franconi and by Rossano Signorini, CEO of Ecofor Service and director of the organization with the precious collaboration of Mauro Sardelli. A beautiful edition of the Pisan race with the mountain grand prix in memory of Luigi Giannoni and Flaminio Giusti won by Davide Bauce of MG Kvis Colors For Peace.
