He would have convinced her in one last meeting by inventing that their dog was sick: the two would then have met in Yana’s apartment, shared among other things with the sister (at that moment away from home) of the alleged killer, late in the evening of last Thursday. Since then, there has been no news of Yana Malaiko, the 23-year-old Ukrainian girl who lived and worked in Castiglione delle Stiviere: it is now impossible to find her alive, even the investigators are convinced. For days they have been looking for the body of the young woman, who was allegedly killed by Dumitru Stratan, a 33-year-old Moldovan and her ex-boyfriend.

The searches have now extended to the Brescian borders: in particular, men and equipment are now exploring part of the Lonato area, in an area of open countryside immediately after the Valle di Castiglione locality, between the Rudone spring and the Roman furnaces. State technicians, law enforcement, civil protection volunteers, dog units and even drones are engaged in research: but for the moment there is still no trace of Yana. Her ex-boyfriend was arrested on charges of voluntary homicide and concealment of a body: he is already in prison.
The murder at home?
Reporting him to the carabinieri were Stratan’s sister, Cristina – with whom Yana shared the apartment and also the job, at the Event Coffee in Castiglione which had been closed for a few days for “family reasons” – and a friend, to whom both the alleged killer confessed to killing her. The images of the cameras outside the building would have taken Yana entering first, and then Dumitru later: Yana would never have gone out and instead the 33-year-old would have been seen carrying a large bag.
Yana’s last message
She would have been killed in the middle of the night. The girl was in the company of a friend, perhaps her new boyfriend, when she was allegedly contacted by Stratan because the dog was “sick”. As mentioned, the two would have met at home and the crime may have been committed here. As reported by the broadcast “Ore 14” by Rai 2, the last message Yana sent to his friend would have been sent after 2: “He told me I should be ashamed, but instead he just has to accept it, even if it’s not reasonable”, he would have written with reference to the probably ongoing dispute with the his ex. The rest is tragedy.
