CASTRIGNANO DE’ GRECI – The 36-year-old Moldovan carer who assisted Fernando Monte, the 82-year-old found dead last night in his home in Castrignano dei Greci, in Salento, confessed during the night and was arrested on suspicion of murder.
From what we understand, the murder would have occurred for trivial reasons at the height of a fit of rage. The elderly man would have been first hit with fists and then on the head with a blunt object that he had in his hand.
The man was taken to the Lecce prison.
According to investigators, the murder occurred during an argument that broke out over trivial matters yesterday at lunchtime. The caregiver allegedly hit the pensioner on the back of the head and in various other parts of the body. Inside the home, where the two had been living for some time, the military found and seized items of clothing and a smartphone still soaked in blood. Everything seems to be traced back to the alleged perpetrator. The body was transported to the morgue of the Vito Fazzi hospital in Lecce to await the autopsy. The elderly man’s body was discovered by his daughter returning from the sea. The caregiver was in a state of shock and was unable to speak.
