The boulder thrown by Moscow, accusing Kiev of having attacked Vladimir Putin’s residence, continues to disturb the waters of the negotiations. The Russians “have not yet provided plausible evidence” of the raid, denounced Volodymyr Zelensky with the support of the Elysée, who spoke of an “act of defiance of the peace agenda”. The Kremlin instead rode the wave, warning that these “criminal actions” are a tombstone on the negotiations. Flexing its muscles again with the announcement that its nuclear-capable Oreshnik missiles, deployed in Belarus, “are now operational”. In this turbulence, European diplomacy, which remains cautious about the real intentions of the White House, has once again closed ranks alongside Kiev: the leaders, including Giorgia Meloni, consulted each other again via a call, preparing the ground for an upcoming meeting on January 6 in France, within the Coalition of the Willing.n

The Ukrainian city of Odessa and the region ended up in the crosshairs of a Russian drone attack overnight. The toll so far speaks of six injured, including three children, a seven-month-old baby, an eight-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. The local authorities reported this, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.

“Some areas of the city are without power, water and heating due to the enemy’s attack,” said Serhii Lysak, head of the city’s military administration. Fires have been reported in apartments and in a warehouse of a company operating in the logistics sector.

Four injured in tonight’s Russian raids on Odessa, damage and fires

Four people, including three children, were injured in Russian airstrikes this evening in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa, Sergey Lysak, head of the local military administration, said on Telegram. “The drones attacked residential, logistical and energy infrastructure in our region,” the Odessa oblast authorities said, adding that the raids damaged buildings and caused fires. Two children aged 8 and 14 and a 7-month-old baby were injured. A 42-year-old man is in serious condition, according to Lysak. These attacks come amid rising tensions between Kiev and Moscow, shortly after statements by the United States and Ukraine indicating progress in talks on a deal that could stop Russia’s invasion of the country. Kiev yesterday highlighted a lack of evidence to support Moscow’s allegations of a Ukrainian drone attack on a residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, while Moscow warned it would toughen its position in talks aimed at ending the conflict. Nonetheless, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a meeting with the leaders of Kiev’s allies is planned in France on January 6.

‘No evidence of the raid on the dacha’, the 6th European summit in Paris

The boulder thrown by Moscow, accusing Kiev of having attacked Vladimir Putin’s residence, continues to disturb the waters of the negotiations. The Russians “have not yet provided plausible evidence” of the raid, denounced Volodymyr Zelensky with the support of the Elysée, who spoke of an “act of defiance of the peace agenda”. The alleged blitz with 91 drones against Putin’s villa in Valdai, which caused no injuries or damage, was dismissed by Kiev as a “lie that can also be verified by our partners with their technologies”. And indeed sources from Emmanuel Macron’s entourage have made it known that “no concrete evidence” has emerged. On the contrary, the Kremlin held the line. First, he promised retaliation (“our military knows how, with what and when to respond,” the words of Dmitry Peskov), and then Russia’s negotiating posture will “tighten”. For Foreign Minister Serghiei Lavrov “negotiations for a reliable and lasting solution to the Ukrainian crisis will not be able to succeed without an end to all this criminal policy” by Kiev. On the diplomatic front, European leaders met by video conference to take stock of the situation, with a message aimed mainly at Moscow: “We need transparency and honesty from everyone, including Russia”, underlined Donald Tusk and Friedrich Merz. Zelensky then announced the next steps: the national security advisors of the allied countries will meet on Saturday in Ukraine, while a meeting between the heads of state and government is “planning for January 6 in France”.
