A drug trafficking networkidentified in an investigation coordinated by the Turin DDA, had also designed and tested a mini submarine, controllable remotely. While waiting to use the new vehicle, for over a year the drug traffickers delivered the narcotic substances, arriving from Ecuador, using cars equipped with homemade double bottoms, traveling from Holland, Spain and France. In all, more than that were seized 204 kilos of drugs, including cocaine, hashish and marijuana. The investigations were conducted by the Carabinieri of the operational unit of the provincial command of Turin in collaboration with the Service for International Police Cooperation, the Office of the Security Expert in Tirana and the Interpol National Central Office of the Albanian Police. The arrests, ordered by the Turin investigating judge on the orders of the DDA, were carried out in the Italian provinces of Turin and Frosinone, and in Albania. In the investigative activity, conventionally called Car Wash as it originates from investigations on car wash operators who looked after some marijuana plantations, investigators have reconstructed the pieces of an association with a logistical base in the province of Turin, suspected of having supplied the major Italian drug dealing centers. It would have been led by two brothers of Albanian origin.
