“Infinite horizons”, the Seriana Valley travels into space

The Seriana Valley is discovering itself to be increasingly similar to the world of space and is seeing a growth in the interest of its dynamic productive world in research and development activities. The birth of this vocation, the embryo of which is consolidating, led to the creation of “Seriana Space Valley”, an identity that contains a founding entrepreneurial nucleus, the important partnership with ValSeriana Industry, strategic sector of Promoserio and Mars Planet Technologies based in Curno, led by Antonio Dal Mastro.

A reality, that of the “Seriana Space Valley”, not separated from the promotion of space culture, which sees Val Gandino hosting for the second consecutive year the “Orizzonti Infiniti” exhibition, a cycle of four events which in the month of May will be characterized around to the theme “Out of Orbite” as a real Scientific Festival. The objective is to bring companies, entrepreneurs and young people closer to the space sector, with the participation of the protagonists of Earth orbit and interplanetary missions. “This second edition – underlines Antonio Dal Mastro – is another important moment in the Seriana Space Valley development, which already sees some space-themed projects involving companies in our area activated”.
Thanks to the precious coordination of the scientific director Daniel Bonazzi, the exhibition opens on the evening of Friday 3 May at 9pm, at the Loverini cinema in Gandino, with astronaut Paolo Nespoli. Interviewed by journalist Eugenio Sorrentino, Nespoli will remember his three missions in orbit. He was present in two expeditions aboard the International Space Station, accumulating 313 days, 2 hours and 36 minutes spent outside the Earth. Nespoli will talk about the life and activities of an astronaut, reserving a speech the following morning also for the students of ISISS Valle Seriana in Gazzaniga.

“The second appointment – underlines Bonazzi – is scheduled Friday 10 May at 9pm with an evening dedicated to companies, which will take place in the Auditorium of the Ursuline Sisters of Gandino. Walter Cugno (vice president of the Exploration and Science Domain of Thales Alenia Space and director of the Exomars program), Claudia Facchinetti (Italian Space Agency), Laura Agazzi (German Aerospace Center) and the OPTEC company which collaborates with ASI and ESA will participate. In this case, it is worth underlining the active support of ValSeriana Industry Promoserio, represented by Andrea Spotti, and of the Comunità Montana Valle Seriana, led by Giampiero Calegari. “Space – underlines the latter – represents a concrete opportunity for our companies and we will do our part to encourage this process. Innovation and these “infinite horizons” can further root businesses in ValSeriana, consequently promoting the economic and social growth of the territory”.
Thursday 16 May at 9pm the “Infinite Horizons” exhibition moves to the Casnigo Oratory theater for an evening of artistic contaminations centered on the show “Across the Universe” with Simone Iovenitti, already applauded protagonist in Gandino in 2023.
The conclusion is reserved for the discovery of the cosmos, for an evening (Loverini Gandino cinema theater at 8pm) with eyes turned to the sky in the company of the astrophotographer Luca Fornaciari and Valentina Zilibotti, who will give life to a space laboratory for children, a conference and a cycle of observation of stars and celestial bodies.

“Talking about space – declares Filippo Servalli, mayor of Gandino – means dealing with a sector deeply intertwined with our lives. For this reason we are addressing a varied audience, involving companies on the one hand, to show how compatible their technological know-how can be with the space sector, and on the other also, and above all, kids, families and all the thirsty curious science. We strongly believe in scientific dissemination and in the importance of reminding adults and children about these issues. Creativity can play a decisive role in scientific research and technological development and for this reason we will also host artistic and musical shows linked to the discovery of the secrets of the cosmos”.
