This #April #25th is indeed a particular day. And not only because we understand that just under a thousand initiatives will take place. # Not just because it’s an anniversary “heavy” – one hundred years since the murder of Matteotti #and eighty years since the Nazi-fascist massacres including the Fosse Ardeatine, Marzabotto, Sant’Anna di Stazzema -, but also because the Italian #and international events are causing significant reactions in vast sections of society, increasingly concerned about the narrowing of democratic spaces #and the rights of freedom #and alarmed by a warlike drift which increasingly takes on the shape of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is why the slogan we have proposed throughout Italy is: “Long #live the #anti-fascist republic!”.

The presence of a large student movement in radical contrast with the government’s positions on the tragedy is undeniable Gaza #and of Palestine #and with the arms race in which our country (along with Europe #and half the world) is frenetically engaged. # The sensational censorship in Rai against the writer Antonio Scurati has led to a reaction of rejection of national dimensions, which sees intellectuals #and journalists in the front row. # On closer inspection it was a gigantic own goal, which stripped the king naked (what an ugly sight!), scandalized Italy #and caused reactions even in the government #and even in Brothers of Italy.

But the Scurati case has uncovered a pot that was already boiling: the complaints of the political power against personalities from the world of culture, the now generalized use of the truncheon as an instrument of government of street demonstrations, the instrumental ignorance of the government towards the ugly history of Ilaria Salis, the attack on law 194 with the presence of anti-abortionists in the clinics, the veiled threats to the right to strike (Salvini docet), the reiteration of decrees #and police measures (anti-rave decree, Cutro decree, Caivano decree, security package) #, all this was already revealing something to an ever-increasing part of public opinion. # What? # Not just disturbing authoritarian impulses, but also a rancorous #and vindictive style on the part of some ministers, in particular on the part of the Prime Minister.

His own, stubborn refusal to say the word Anti-fascism #and her ostentatious nostalgic lexicon (Nation, destiny, duties, Italianness) reveals that Giorgia Meloni on the one hand has not at all severed the political #and sentimental roots with the Social Movement, on the other hand it tends to design a government model for the country that is in many ways similar to that of Kaczynski’s Poland #and Orbán’s Hungary.

Then there is the issue of war #and its horrors which, first with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, today with the destruction of Gaza (and a significant part of its inhabitants), shakes public opinion, because it is increasingly clear that the choices of the Italian government – #and, alas, of the top leaders of the European Union – are not moving in the direction of settling conflicts through the weapon of diplomacybut through in the direction of an expansion of conflicts through arms diplomacy.

The outcome of these policies is in fact: Putin has now occupied a large part of Ukrainian territory, Netanyahu continues undaunted in its serial massacres, awaiting what could be the greatest butchery, that is, the attack on Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians have taken refuge, Hamas does not release the hostages after the carnage of October 7th. # Not only that: the International Monetary Fund forecasts an increase in GDP for Italy by 0.7%, Germany by 0.2% #and Russia by 3.2% for 2024. # Remember the sanctions that they would have defeated Putin in two weeks? # Nothing but the collapse of Russia! # Instead it happened the boomerang effect: The European Union teeters in stagnation.

To tell the truth, not everything is bad: it flourishes the arms industry reaching the historical maximum of world spending, #and historical experience shows that when many weapons are produced, sooner or later they are used. # This is what happened in the case of the two conflicts of the 20th century. Therefore: ceasefire, everywhere. # It’s the priority. # Authoritarianism, obscurantism, war: this was not the world #and the country for which the partisans fought. # Yet a very timely lesson comes to us from them. # The seemingly desperate fight against an overwhelming army #and despite the delays of the Allies she was victorious. # Luckily today we are not in that dramatic situation, there are no bombings, no massacres, no pain. # History can be changed with perseverance, unity #and a plan for the future.

Our project, which we know is common to many forces #and a large part of the national community, is called defense #and full implementation of Constitution, not surprisingly attacked by those who want to replace parliament with a single man (or woman) in command. # #April #25th is a day of celebration because it was the Liberation. # And let today be a day of celebration, for a new liberation called the Constitution.
