Break-in at the Turin conference when the ministers were no longer inside

When the pro-Palestine demonstrators broke in, ministers Tajani, Bernini, Lollobrigida and Pichetto had already left the building after participating in the morning session of the conference. Most of the boys, who claimed to be students of the Turin Polytechnic, were blocked before entering the Hall of Honour. Only one girl managed to enter the conference hall with a Palestinian flag.

Bernini: “No dialogue with those who raid conferences”

“No dialogue with those who raid conferences, with those who attack the rectories and those who attack the police. Maximum solidarity with the police forces who once again demonstrated professionalism and dedication. What happened today in Turin demonstrates even more the usefulness of the Order and security committee convened for tomorrow at the Interior Ministry”. Thus the Minister of the University, Anna Maria Bernini, on social media.

“Zionists out of the university” on banners

Thirty demonstrators have been identified and will be reported: several are militants from the Askatasuna social centre, who coordinated the various breakout attempts. The students had with them Palestinian flags and a banner with the words “Zionists out of the university. Bernini, Tajani, Lollobrigida we don’t want you”. On the streets of the center they sang the chants “Tout le monde detest la police” and “The police out of the procession”. “We must prevent events like the one at Valentino from occurring – said the demonstrators -. We are here against the war on the university”.

Apprehension among the faithful in the synagogue

There was apprehension among the faithful praying for Passover, which is celebrated from April 22 to 30, when the procession passed near the synagogue in the center of the city. The demonstrators were always kept away from the place of worship by the police cordon.

Police union: “We are looking for a clash”

“The seven bruised officers represent a predictable epilogue of the intolerance towards the police that has been growing throughout the country in recent times.” This is what Domenico Pianese, general secretary of the Coisp police union, writes in a note referring to the tensions in Turin. “In addition to expressing all our solidarity with our colleagues from the Turin police headquarters and the mobile departments, we cannot help but underline how these self-styled demonstrators in most cases take to the streets not for an ideal, but in the spasmodic and continuous search for conflict with those representing the State – he adds – numerous militants from the Askatasuna social center also infiltrated the procession and, disguising themselves as demonstrators, incited the crowd against the police, staging a real urban guerrilla, and put the safety not only of the policemen who are there to protect public order, but also of all citizens”.

Demonstrations among university students therefore continue, involving several Italian cities in recent weeks. Among the first, that of Pisa, where there were police attacks on demonstrators, followed by marches and protests in other universities, including the Sapienza University of Rome.
