The leader of the Democratic Party has second thoughts, and after a very harsh direction, announces on her social networks that she will not put her name in the symbol of the Democratic Party for the 2024 European elections, as instead proposed in the document presented yesterday to the Democratic parliament: «If it is an idea that it divides more than unites – said Elly Schlein – I have no problem taking it back. I thank those who made this proposal, but I think I can make a contribution by running alongside them on this list. It is a proposal that is more divisive than strengthening and we don’t need it. We are the only party that discusses things.” The idea had provoked very harsh reactions, first of all the condemnation of Romano Prodi who yesterday, after the direction, had declared: «Elly is an added value and will lead that challenge by offering a precious contribution. I don’t dramatize the theme of the symbol, as far as I’m concerned I think that choice could convey a party model that isn’t mine.” Alessia Morani, candidate, declared: «The Democratic Party has finally overcome the taboo of the value of leadership, above all the left wing of the party has done so, but I cannot say whether the value of leadership is measured by the name in the symbol, certainly it does not belong to the party’s tradition.” During the day, Lucia Annunziata, head of the list for the south, also said that she was against it, making her candidacy available.
