Port of Naples, ship against quay at Molo Beverello: 21 injured in hospital

The fast ship Procida Island departing from Capri it hit a quay at Beverello Pier in Naples during mooring operations. According to initial reports, there would be around thirty injured, 21 of whom were hospitalized in Neapolitan hospitals with maxillofacial trauma or injuries.

There were several hundred passengers on board, including many foreigners. Several injured people are currently being assisted by 118, 21 have been transported to the nearest hospitals, another 8 have presented themselves with their own vehicles to the emergency room of the Pellegrini hospital. An advanced medical post was set up at the site of the accident and the rescue coordinator requested the further dispatch of ambulances. At the moment of impact, upon arrival at the port, almost all the passengers were standing and would have fallen due to the collision.

From the Caremar state that the impact was probably due to a technical accident. The shipping company is activating all the assistance procedures required for passengers and will provide maximum collaboration to the maritime authority to ascertain the causes of the accident.

On board the ship, in addition to the 118 health workers, there are men from the Port Authority and the State Police who are carrying out the first checks to understand whether it is an accident due to marine weather conditions or whether it could be a human error.
