Snow and showers

On December 24, the rains will intensify in the morning in lower Piedmont, extending to the rest of the region in the afternoon. The phenomena will be more frequent near the Alps, where the snow will initially fall above 1100-1300 metres, with the snowfall limit significantly lowering as the hours pass, up to 500-700 meters in the evening in the Cuneo area. Fiocchi are also expected in the city of Cuneo and on the top of the Turin hill. Above 1500m, further accumulations of new snow of around 10/20cm are expected, even higher in the upper Canavese area and in the Maritime Alps.

Piedmont, yellow alert at Christmas: the areas involved

Arpa Piemonte has issued a yellow alert for snow and avalanches for Wednesday 24 December in two areas of the region: E – Valli Varaita, Maira and Stura (Cn) and F – Valle Tanaro (Cn).

It will worsen on Thursday 25 December with five areas on yellow alert: C – Valli Orco, Lanzo, lower Val Susa and Sangone (To); D – Upper Susa valley, Chisone, Pellice and Po (Cn-To); And Valli Varaita, Maira and Stura (Cn); F Valle Tanaro (Cn); M Cuneo Plain (Cn-To).

Yellow alert for snow and avalanches: “Until the morning of Boxing Day, moderate precipitation spread across western Piedmont, locally heavy in the valleys of Cuneo and Turin. Snow levels are already decreasing today from 1000-1100 m up to hilly altitudes, with lower values ​​in Cuneese, Langhe, Roero and the Turin hills, up to 400-600 m”.

Christmas and Boxing Day

Badellino continues: “On Christmas day, the disturbance will persist in Piedmont, resulting in disturbed weather conditions, with rain, showers and snowfalls down to low altitudes, often down to the plains of the Cuneo area and, at times, also in the Asti area. The entry of cold currents from Eastern Europe will favor a drop in temperatures: the maximum values ​​will not go above 5 °C in Turin and Novara and 7 °C in Verbania”. On Santo Stefano the disturbance will gradually loosen its grip, persisting with the last rainfall on Turin and Cuneo, where the snow will fall up to hilly altitudes.

The weekend

Over the weekend, the strengthening of the anticyclone expanding from northern Europe towards the Mediterranean will also involve our region, resulting in a progressive stabilization of the weather, which will be mostly sunny.
