It was just to show them that we could do better”, explained Guadalupe, “I know that I’m far from being the perfect mother. The only thing I can say, is that everything I did, I did with only their best interest at heart.”

Although the author of Jenny from the block and Ai n’t your mama was introduced to singing and dancing at an early age, her parents recognized the talent of their three daughters and entered them in all kinds of competitions. “My mother taught us to be self-sufficient, to not depend on anyone, to make our own way in the world,” López said in a 2013 interview with the United Nations Foundation.
