Despite the years of training necessary to participate in the tender, the expected salary does not seem very attractive: 500 euros gross per month for a task that appears demanding on paper. There is controversy over the notice published on 2 April by the Municipality of San Vito al Tagliamento for the reopening of the archaeological section of the Federico De Rocco Civic Museum which is located in the Raimonda Tower, currently closed to the public.

The collaboration will be for three years and provides for a compensation of 6 thousand euros per year, payable in one instalment, including pension contributions and VAT. The requirements to participate in the selection include a specialist or master’s degree and a curriculum of studies in archaeological disciplines, as well as a specialization diploma or a 2nd level master’s degree.

The collaborator will have to maintain relations with the Superintendency, both for aspects related to the museum and for those relating to municipal obligations; will have to manage the archaeological material present in the warehouse or on display and update the entry register. Not only. The director will have to inventory the archaeological material, draw up an annual and multi-year scientific project, establish collaborations and promote cataloging projects. He will also have to take care of and organize educational activities and promote the local archaeological heritage through exhibitions, conferences and magazines.

An enormous amount of work, given the expected compensation. This is how ‘Mi Rittici’, an association that monitors the work of cultural professionals, sees it and speaks of a “shameful ban that belittles years of humanistic studies with embarrassing salaries”. “Once again, a very high level of specialization is required, in exchange for compensation below the poverty line – comments the association in a note -. Let’s just hope that the Administration takes a step back, recognizing the immense disproportion between what is requested and what is instead offered.”
