Dave Bautista is preparing to close an important chapter in his career. With the upcoming third adventure of the Guardians of the Galaxy the former wrestler actor will definitively greet the character of Drax and seems to have very clear ideas regarding his professional future.

In a recent interview, the actor talked about his journey in the world of cinema, which inevitably led him to be compared with a first-rate star like Dwayne Johnson and other faces from the world of wrestling. Bautista tells how the idea of trying his hand at the world of cinema came to him for the first time in 2009 when he was to all intents and purposes a major WWE star, even if from his point of view he was not treated as such:

«John Cena and I were both leads. I was the face of Smackdown and he was the face of Raw. But he was used in WWE produced movies, TV commercials and magazines, while I was just headlining shows. In fact, he had gone off to make movies at one point while I had headlined both pay-per-view events. I had a feeling of not enjoying his own opportunities granted to him».

The latter therefore seems to be the main reason that prompted Bautista to leave WWE in 2010 and try his hand at an acting career. A choice that has led to some parallels with Dwayne Johnson, who however has never been his point of reference. In fact, Bautista has never hidden that he has some very different goals compared to the well-known colleague, who is today one of the major Hollywood stars: «I never wanted to be the next The Rock. I just want to be a good f***ing actor. A respected actor».

In any case, Bautista doesn’t seem at all interested in achieving movie star status at all costs: «Honestly, I don’t give a f*** to be a movie star. I don’t live a big glamorous life. I live here in Tampa. I don’t care about the spotlight, I don’t care about the fame. I just want to be a better actor. I want respect from my peers. I don’t need accolades – really, man. For me it’s all about experience, knowing that I’ve achieved something».

During 2023 Dave Bautista will have more than one opportunity to showcase his talent. February 2 will be on the big screen with Knocking at the doorthe latest thriller conceived and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, while on May 3 will bid farewell to the character of Drax with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3then go back to Dune: Part Two November 17.
